Arkansas Toothpick- The Civil War Hub of ArkansasThere were several military actions that occurred on July 28 during the Civil War in Arkansas. On June 18, 1862 the Union army left Helena on a four day expedition to Old Town and Trenton. On the same day two years later in 1864 the Union army was on day three of a three day scout sent to Searcy and West Point. July 28, 1864 also marked the date of a skirmish at West Point and a skirmish at Scatterville.

Military actions in this “Today in Arkansas During the Civil War” column can be traced better using the Civil War Arkansas: A Military Atlas. You can trace the same roads they walked in many cases in this atlas. You can find obscure references to communities mentioned in Civil War records that can be located in this atlas. Civil War Arkansas: A Military Atlas is the perfect companion book for this “Today in History” series.
