Over the past few years I have been researching in great detail the weekly goings-on that led up to secession, the battles that have been fought, and the people that lived through the War Between the States. To commemorate the valor of those men and women one hundred and fifty years ago, the Arkansas Toothpick Editor Ron Kelley will be launching a series of six volumes dedicated to preserving the history and heritage of the people of Arkansas between the years 1860-1865.
Volume One of Diary of a State will have a heavy focus on the pre-war Arkansas militia, the threat of a slave rebellion in Arkansas, the state and national election of 1860, and a mixed paraphernalia of 1860 Arkansas culture.
This book series will not be a narrative, but rather a collection of significant documents, newspaper articles, diary entries, and many other primary sources encompassing the significant and mundane alike. Every page in Diary of a State will add more understanding of the Civil War in Arkansas.
Volume One is slated to be released in January, 2013. I will keep you all updated on its progress on arkansastoothpick.com.
